Playing Soccer Safely with Other Kids — About this Life Guide
Playing Soccer Safely with Other Kids is a 34‑page Life Guide designed to support a child in learning how to play soccer safely with peers, manage big feelings, and make positive choices during play. Although this Life Guide focuses on soccer, the skills and strategies can be applied to many types of shared play with peers. The first few pages are shown in the product images for preview.
Throughout this Life Guide, there are 5 Thinking Questions that gently encourage a child to reflect on their learning. One complimentary token board and tokens are also included. The token board can be used for any task, including practicing the 5 Thinking Questions and playing safely with other children.
Please laminate the token board or place it in a sheet protector for ongoing use. If you wish to use the provided tokens, the cut tokens can also be laminated and used with Velcro. You may also use an erasable marker to make check marks instead.
To maximize motivation and the effectiveness of the token board, please decide what the child is working for (reward) and write it down on the token board before the child begins collecting tokens.
Please also ensure that the child receives a token immediately after showing the desired behaviour, correct answers, and any attempts or effort to respond, depending on the unique expectation for the child, and receives the reward as soon as they earn all the tokens. This helps the child meaningfully understand that the desired behaviour is what leads to earning the token and receiving the reward.

Overview
Playing Soccer Safely with Other Kids is a professionally developed, child‑centred social–emotional learning (SEL) guide within the My Life Guides series, thoughtfully designed to support children—including those with significant behavioural challenges—in understanding how to play safely and calmly with peers, including soccer, and make respectful choices during shared play.
This Life Guide was originally created as an individualized resource for a specific student at the request of a Learning Support Teacher. It has been thoughtfully adapted and edited into a public version so that all children can benefit from the same learning. Although the story focuses on playing soccer safely with other children, the skills and strategies in this Life Guide can be applied to many types of shared play.
Over the Moon Wellness creates individualized, customized Life Guides to support specific behavioural or learning needs upon request. If you require a personalized Life Guide, please contact info@overthemoonwellness.ca.
This Life Guide helps children learn what it means to play as a team, wait for their turn to get the ball, and respond safely when they feel frustrated or disappointed.
