Compassionate Behaviour Support for Children

Hello!

My name is Ms. Moon, and I am a Behaviour Support Worker based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I work in elementary schools supporting children who experience moderate to severe behavioural challenges. Each day, I observe and analyze their behavioural patterns, collaborate closely with classroom teachers, administrative teams, and support staff, and provide evidence‑informed recommendations to help ensure that every child can feel safer, calmer, more supported, and ready to thrive at school.

Although these children are deeply tender and precious, many are still too young and developmentally early to fully understand or reflect on their own inner world. Emotions they cannot name or express often surge outward from within and emerge as intense, heightened, and overwhelming behaviours.

For this reason, before any behavioural intervention begins, my highest priority is to understand the root cause of the behaviour — the child’s true emotions and the deeper struggles beneath them — and to gently soothe and stabilize their emotional state with warmth, safety, gentleness, and compassion.

At school, I communicate with children both verbally and through individualized guiding stories and therapeutic materials designed for different aspects of their daily lives, delivering each message with deep sincerity and care. I share language that supports the essential inner capacities children need — their self‑efficacy, resilience, emotional safety, social confidence, and a growing sense of limitless potential.

I hope that not only the children I meet, but many more, can receive the words they most need to hear, learn, and remember — both at home and at school. These are words that provide strength in discouraging moments, courage in moments of doubt, and core life lessons and emotionally supportive messages that continue to guide children throughout their lives.

Driven by this hope, I began developing structured, supportive tools designed to accompany children across school settings, home environments, and everyday moments. My Life Guides are the first of these tools, created to provide gentle life guidance and emotional support for a wide range of situations children commonly encounter, helping them build the foundational skills needed to grow into responsible and emotionally capable individuals.

A portion of all proceeds from every product at Over the Moon Wellness is thoughtfully donated to initiatives that support children’s mental‑health research, developmental and neurological disability studies, and community programs that strengthen the wellbeing of children and families.

My Life Guides are provided as printable PDF files, allowing parents, caregivers, and educators to easily print and organize them in a binder or duotang for consistent use at home and at school, or to access them digitally on a device. They have been implemented with elementary students experiencing behavioural challenges and have been well‑received, demonstrating positive effects on emotional regulation, behavioural improvement, and overall classroom functioning.

Like the moon that quietly illuminates a dark road so no one loses their way, I hope My Life Guides can gently hold a child’s confused, frightened, anxious, or tender heart and shine a steady light toward the beautiful life they deserve to walk toward.

If My Life Guides can offer even a small measure of comfort, clarity, or hope, I could not wish for more.
