✤ About the Author

This Life Guide was written by Ms. Moon, founder of Over the Moon Wellness and a Behaviour Support Worker in Canada.

Working closely with school teams and other professionals across the school community, Ms. Moon observes learners with moderate‑to‑severe behavioural, emotional, social, and learning challenges across diverse school settings. She looks beyond surface behaviours to understand each learner’s inner thoughts, unmet needs, and unique struggles. With empathy and evidence‑based strategies, she develops tailored approaches that empower learners to adapt positively to school and community life.

Ms. Moon writes the My Life Guides series with a heartfelt mission: to equip learners with the essential skills they need to navigate daily growth pains and obstacles, helping them feel safe, capable, and supported in their everyday lives. Her hope is to inspire every learner to move forward with confidence, pursue kind and meaningful goals, and build a beautiful, fulfilling future of their own design.

Are cleanup transitions leading to big emotions, resistance, or unsafe choices in your classroom or home?

Make cleanup time calmer, safer, and more predictable.

 ✤ Overview

Becoming My Best Self During Cleanup Time is an evidence-informed, learner‑centred Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Life Guide that provides gentle, strengths‑based guidance to help learners understand routines, navigate transitions, regulate emotions, and practice calming strategies that support safe, respectful behaviour during cleanup time—without shame or harsh demands.

It is especially supportive for learners who are developing everyday routines and expectations at home or at school, as well as neurodivergent learners and others who benefit from predictable structure and clear, compassionate guidance.

✤ What This Life Guide Includes

Becoming My Best Self During Cleanup Time is a visual, learner-centred Life Guide that includes 10 reflection questions designed to reinforce essential concepts and encourage learners to think about their choices, strategies, and growth.

✤ How This Life Guide Supports Learners

Becoming My Best Self During Cleanup Time goes beyond simply telling learners to “clean up.” It acknowledges their internal challenges and provides concrete, actionable supports to help learners practise emotional regulation and make safer choices.

Practical regulation strategies: Step‑by‑step sensory tools such as dandelion breathing, hand‑squeezing tension release, mental shape counting, and politely requesting noise‑canceling headphones

Relatable and realistic modelling: Clear visual examples of dysregulation responses (throwing, breaking, yelling, running away) paired with gentle, safe alternatives

Strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming language: Respectful, supportive language that recognizes individual needs while encouraging growth, self-regulation, and safe choices
